Con questo nuovo appuntamento di The Utopian Display Platform 2008 continua la collaborazione tra MIART e NABA per sviluppare una riflessione sulle pratiche artistiche e curatoriali contemporanee.
Dopo aver focalizzato sugli aspetti più teorici di queste pratiche con gli appuntamenti che si sono susseguiti dal 2003, a partire da quest’anno si propone un’indagine sulle singole realtà locali come momento di messa a fuoco di situazioni più specifiche.
Il primo focus riguarda la realtà turca e in particolare la città di Istanbul, che si è recentemente orientata verso un modello diverso di modernità. Istanbul come città di confine tra mondo occidentale e orientale è cambiata notevolmente negli ultimi anni. Questo ha avuto ricadute anche sulla scena artistica e ha aperto nuovi possibili scenari. La nuova modernità ha portato a profondi mutamenti di una parte della società turca che hanno riguardato anche la scena artistica. Sono nate nuove istituzioni e si sono prodotte nuove modalità artistiche all’interno di un contesto modificato. Sarà offerto un punto di vista sulla trasformazione urbana della città tra arte contemporanea e produzioni alternative con gli effetti che questa ha prodotto.
Gli ospiti invitati per questa edizione di TUDP discuteranno su tali cambiamenti e sulle prospettive future che si vanno costituendo nella città turca. Quale il futuro artistico della città e quale il contributo che essa potrà dare al dibattito artistico internazionale dei prossimi anni, questa sarà una delle questioni messe al centro della discussione.
The new edition of The Utopian Display Platform 2008 continues with the collaboration between MIART and NABA to develop the debate on contemporary artistic and curatorial practices.
Following on from the focus on the more theoretical aspects of these practices in the series of events organized since 2003, this year’s edition proposes an investigation into localised realities in order to highlight specific cases and experiences.
The first discussion will focus on the Turkish experience and in particular the capital city Istanbul, which has recently oriented towards a different model of modernity. Istanbul, as a city bordering between the occidental and oriental worlds, has changed significantly in the last few years. These changes have also had consequences for the artistic scene and opened up new opportunities and scenarios. The new modernity has transformed a part of Turkish society that has also impacted upon the artistic panorama. New institutions and artistic approaches have been founded within this modified context. The discussion will offer a perspective on the urban transformation of the city, focussing on contemporary alternative art and production and the effects this has produced.
The guests for this edition of The Utopian Display Platform and will discuss the changes and future prospects for Istanbul. What is the artistic future of the city, and what kind of contribution will it provide for the international artistic debate over the coming years? This will be one of the central questions of the discussion.
